Hi friend!
Can you guess what today's newsletter is about? (hint: I am the crab:)) Well, I’m a Cancer sun which is represented by the crab, but I have my moments. Though this isn't about me...it's about moonstones! The bias here is that I don’t always share stones for specific astrological signs but here we are in Cancerian times and when moonstone is on the line—I’m gonna talk about it!
It can be confusing when you look up birthstones and stones for astrology sometimes, you’ll find a list of possibilities. But moonstone for Cancers just feels right! Cancers are ruled by the moon and its emotional tides, being a water sign, and are often known for their depth and powers of intuition. We need a stone that supports this! (and something to soften our occasional bouts of crabbiness). Moonstone is the answer.
This isn’t my first time talking about these enchanting stones, and if you stick with me it won’t be the last! Their dreamy allure and sense of magic has captivated me since I first discovered them and I’ve consistently used them in my work over the years.
I remember when I first fell for moonstones. I was in high school and my friends and I would take the train into Boston to a shop on Newbury St. called Hope. We were obsessed with their silver moonstone rings that we would wear religiously until the polish would wear into a matte finish.
If you noticed, I’ve hesitated to put out a moonstone ring for this reason, it’s a softer stone and while you certainly can wear it daily (I wear my pendant daily) it can take a beating on a finger.
I have a rare pinkish, yellowish, greenish, blueish (but mostly pinkish) one hanging around my neck that I never take off. It looks like a mini galaxy and it brings me joy every time I look at it.
Most often you’ll find blue or “rainbow “ moonstones like I use in my jewelry. (Which I have recently come to find out isn’t actually a true moonstone but is a type of labradorite, a close cousin of moonstone--a ‘true’ moonstone is typically more opaque and less flashy).
So why are we so drawn to these stones? It could be because metaphysically speaking they have a soothing feminine energy and support in activating intuition. Or because they look like little drops of moonlight magic. Actually I read that Ancient Romans believed that moonlight was captured in these stones! I mean, maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to knock it, I’m into that idea…carrying around a moonbeam.
Despite the title of this post, I fully support that anyone who finds them intriguing should have one, Cancerian or not. We could all use a little help tapping into our intuitions and riding our emotional waves.
Thanks for reading! If you're not already subscribed to my newsletter, sign up to never miss a thing. Also exclusive sales and fun stuff like that.
